History: Today's town of Harrachov (a town since 1973) was established after 1945 by joining the originally independent settlements Nový Svět and Rýžoviště with the original Harrachov. In 1959 the hamlet of Mýtiny joined, today the railway terminal station of the route Tanvald – Harrachov is located on its former territory. This area used to belong to Poland and was exchanged for an area of the same size north of Mrtvý vrch. The village is documented since the 17th century and already at the beginning of 18th century glassworks were established which from 1754 belonged to Counts of Harrachov. At the end of 19th century and the beginning of the 20th Century it made Krkonoše's glass production famous all over Europe and overseasthe world. Nowadays production successfully continues the famous tradition. The glass museum was moved to the rebuilt mansion near the glass factory in Nový Svět in 1994.
