Technical monument Ergis #ID: 2200
Pelton's turbine - reservoire for the Snezka MountainThis somewhat peculiar name belongs to an interesting technical monument which also is an example of today's rediscovering "alternative" sources of energy. The principle is strikingly simple: Water that naturally falls down from the hills is used to run a machine pumping part of the water back uphill to the top of the mountains. The reservoir and the pipeline to the Snezka were built in 1912. Before that water had to be carried up in backpacks - just as any other goods. These special backpacks were used till 1957.
