Church, Historical sight Ergis #ID: 17
Church of Saint LawrenceThis magnificent baroque building from 1729 – 1736 was built according to the project of J.J. Aichbauer. A fire that hit the town in 1838 destroyed the roofs with their typical baroque shape. But the cathedral was quickly covered by an ordinary gable roof and the tower was covered by a broach roof. In 1994 the castle went through a total reconstruction. The valuable interior is remarkably homogenous in its style: A gothic Virgin Mary from the beginning of the 13th century, a tin baptismal font from the year of 1545, a magnificent calvary and pulpit, angel-candleholders and a relief depicting the murder of St. Jan Nepomucky from the second quarter of the 18th century. The Baroque organ from 1788 - a work of an organ-builder from Králíky - greatly benefits from the fine acoustics of the ship; it is a work of an organ-maker from Králíky. The picture "The murder of Saint Lawrence" above the altar was painted by Dominik Kinderman. Additional decoration of the church was made by carver and sculptor Jan Sucharda.
