Museum of Krkonose Mountains

The Museum of Krkonose Mountains was established in 1891 in connection with the first preparations for a Czechoslovak ethnic exhibition in Prague. The first exposition was installed at the turn of the century in a former girl’s school. Later the museum was moving a few times. For a long time museum resided in the old town hall until it found a home in the former castle of Harrach’s counts in 1953.

In 1929 the museum established three sections focussing on history and ethnography of the Krkonose Mountains, the beginning and development of czech skiing and a gallery acknowledging the work of Frantisek Kavan (1866-1941). But but only after it had moved to the castle it was possible to fully expand its capacity.
Since 1979 the museum is under the administration the Krkonose national park.
