Karel Hnik was born in Jilemnice (The Czech Republic) on July 29, 1942.
In Hradec Králové he attended the college of Arts. He graduated from the department of artistic photography led by prof. Ján Šmok.
Since 1990 he has been working as a full-time photographer in the management head office of the Czech Krkonoše National Park (KRNAP) in Vrchlabí.
He is the author of the following individual exhibitions:

He also participated in many other exhibitions.
He publishes his photographs in magazines. He has produced many calendars with photographs of the Krkonoše Mountains, crafts which are dying out and Iceland. He has contributed photographs of the huge album "Krkonoše Mountains" (1999), published his photographs in albums "Krkonoše Mountains" (2002) and "Bygone days..."(2003).
His works can be found both in museuns and in private collections.
